Kaizen Cycling Coaching Philosophy
We set high standards, not of performance, but of behaviour, of attitude and of effort
Creating resilient, independent, self-motivated athletes
The Kaizen Cycling coaching philosophy sets the tone for everything we do.
As a coach and in life I set myself high standards, not of performance, but of behaviour, of attitude and of effort and I expect the same from those I coach.
It’s setting smarter process goals and most of all the adoption of a growth mind-set that sets an individual on the path of continual improvement, not just in their chosen sport but in life. Our coaches encourage and promote the use of deep practice and deliberate practice as a means of building high levels of skill and to help our athletes take greater control of their own destiny.
I don’t like nor do I use the term talent. It’s just a starting point that invariably gets trumped by hard work and application of the right things in the right way. Tell a young person they have talent and there’s a risk they’ll adopt a fixed mind-set centred on avoiding failure at all costs. Failure’s part of the learning process; if you focus on what you can already do, you’ll never improve at all.
Our coaching sessions are fun but will always challenge the participants to help them achieve more than they ever believed they could. It’s what make coaching worthwhile.
